I Think I Might Have a Problem

Not to make light of people with debilitating and life-altering addiction issues, but does anyone know of any 12-step programs for people who are addicted to books?

Hello. My name is Susan and I am a book addict.

My house already resembles a library gone mad, but I just can’t resist getting more books. A visit to the local library with my children often sees me bring home at least 3 – 4 books for myself, even though my TBR pile could quite easily crush anyone foolish enough to be standing nearby if it ever avalanched.

I was forced to face the uncomfortable truth of my addition as incontrovertible evidence was delivered to my front door yesterday.

In an attempt to distract myself from books and save some money, I have decided to dust off my sewing machine and put my hand to making some clothes for myself and the kids (skirts, pinafores, pyjama pants etc). All sounding harmless and commendably budget-conscious so far? Hmmm. You’d think so, wouldn’t you?

Of course, getting back into the sewing groove requires some assistance. My sewing skills are reasonable but basic, so I thought I would check out Fishpond.com for some sewing book recommendations. I should have known where that would end. Behold the results of my sewing book spending splurge:

Sad, isn’t it? I plan to salve my guilty conscience somewhat by reviewing each of these books in the near future. That makes buying them a business expense, right?

Oh yes, I have a problem – BUT – I don’t keep my books and my addition stays well hidden…lol! Of course the mail carrier will tell a different story. ;)

I often wonder what the parcel delivery guy things as he turns up several times a week with parcels for me. I’m starting to feel like I should be providing him with a coffee and snack, he calls in so often.
