The Speed Dating Version

The Long Term Relationship Version
The title of this blog comes from one of my favourite authors, Dr Seuss. “I can read in a circle and upside down.” (I Can Read With My Eyes Shut). Reading Upside Down was originally a book blog, but it has evolved into a memoir-style blog where I write about everyday life as well as posting reviews of books that I have particularly enjoyed.

I’m a freelance writer. I’ve been many other things – McDonalds worker, medical secretary, specialist medical typist, administration assistant, university student – but I’m very excited to finally be doing something that I really love.

I’ve refocused several times since I first started Reading Upside Down as a place to chat about books and reading. While I still love to talk all things literary, I’ve expanded Reading Upside Down to include posts about other issues that I’m passionate about, such as writing, creativity and the importance of making a difference.

Want to see what I write? Of course you do. You can find it here:

  • Suite101.com, where I’m a Contributing Writer
  • I’m a senior review for the fantastic Australian children’s literature website Kids Book Review
  • Various magazine articles, including work for Newcastle’s Child Magazine and Business Mums News.
  • Urban Insider – a collection of articles and photos about Newcastle for locals and visitors.

I am also currently contributing to a manuscript for a book on children’s creativity with Sydney author and artist, Ursula Kolbe.

On a more personal note, I’m a busy mother of three school-aged children. I love tea, hate coffee, love to bake and hate to clean. I firmly believe that there’s no such thing as too many books and might perhaps be just a little bit addicted to Twitter.

Just a wee idea from one of your latest fans: Perhaps you could add the little WordPress widget so that I could sign up for new posts by adding my email address? Feedburner does the rest. I fear that I’ll not remember to navigate back here, and I’m intrigued with and by your site! Too many bookmarks, google RSS feeds, and a cluttered computer and house! -Jan
